I was looking for a financial advisor/debt relief services and left a voicemail with Alec, he reached back out almost immediately! After getting some information from me, he very nicely explained that he doesn’t usually work with my personal situation, but still offered to give me some advice on what I could do moving forward. He was very professional, and gave me some great advice on my steps moving forward. I will still be looking for an advisor that fits my personal situation but Alec was fantastic and went out of his way to provide me with helpful guidance on my situation when he didn’t have to. Definitely recommend Alec to anyone looking to achieve their financial goals- and thank you Alec for taking the time to answer and provide me with incredibly helpful information when you didn’t have to!

Alec Truckman Review
Student Loans:
I’m a first-generation licensed California attorney. And guess what? I have what can amount to a home mortgage worth of student loans. There was no planning for my future. Frankly, the idea of being a licensed attorney was unthinkable. But thanks to my parent's work ethic and example, I learned that hard work pays off. It’s not easy, but it will surely pay off.
Well, I’m now at the stage where I need to plan and strategize for to pay off my student loans. I was connected to Alec Truckman through the Ramsey trusted partners. Thank you, Alec for your time! Alec asked me about my goals, and he talked to me about options and solutions to take the steps toward paying off my student loans. No judgment. Just support. He’s helped me plan and helped me realize that there’s a manageable way to chip away at my student loans.
Thank you, Alec!

Update in 2025: This is a very hard update to post because Alec seems like such a nice guy and I gave him a glowing review previously. After a conflict of interest came up in a trust he recommended we invest in, I poured over past portfolio performance for months to discover that our accounts had not been performing. Basic benchmarks show they were severely underperforming. There was no communication from Alec about what was happening. I was thanking him (unaware of what was happening because I was ignorant) and he was happy to be receiving my thanks even though he could easily see how poorly our accounts were being managed. When I sent all of the proof to him via email, he blamed me for not reaching out to him sooner. Can you imagine? He also blamed me for being "skittish" about investing when we first met back in 2017. Even the most conservative investor would've done far better by putting their money into a simple S&P 500 fund. I showed him the evidence of that. His response was "I never promised to beat out the market" Obviously no intelligent investor would expect that.

Here is one example from one of our accounts: Our joint account started with $57,632.75, and we contributed an additional $9,500 from bank account transfers, bringing the total investment to $67,132.75. Before I took all of our accounts away from him, it sat at $82,834.16, meaning actual gains over this entire period (7 years!) amount to only $15,701.41—a pathetic return for a portfolio whose allocations were moderately aggressive. Had this been placed in a simple S&P 500 index fund, the balance would be $202,615.87, meaning we missed out on $135,483.12 in potential profits. Even with a more conservative 10% return, our account should have grown to $137,208.05, showing an underperformance of at least $70,075.30.

When he said I should've called if I wasn't happy, I realized that I was either dealing with someone who has no idea what our accounts were doing because he hasn't bothered to look or with someone who saw and didn't care. A fiduciary would've addressed this, not waited for the client to figure it out years later. The only reason I thought to go back years and check performance (tracking movements between various custodians), was because he treated me poorly when I asked about his relationship with a firm that mysteriously popped up in my email asking me to sign documents listing them as my financial advisor for the $ he recommended we invest into a trust that we couldn't touch for a year and this document gave them full authority over my investment. A $250K investment.

When I asked him about that, asked why the paperwork wasn't filled out correctly, and asked for a fee disclosure because there wasn't one in the documents, instead of responding like a normal person ("Oh, I apologize. I should have informed you about my relationship with this other firm. I am unable to access this fund without them. Here are the details, here is the fee disclosure, and I'll get the paperwork fixed right away."), I had to ask him multiple times for the fee disclosure and when I pushed back on his lack of disclosure, he said, "If you're not comfortable with it, you don't have to do it" and then "My other clients don't ask these kinds of questions. I've never had anyone ask for this stuff before". For the first time, his trustworthiness came into question for me although that should've happened a long time ago.

I feel embarrassed making this update, but I have to tell other investors. Alec is clearly an intelligent guy, he knows a lot about the market, and does spend a lot of time educating, however when it comes to portfolio management, I don't think he has the experience to do anything other than throw your money into a custodian account, let them choose allocations, and then collect his fees. It's a set it and forget it approach. Either that or he knows and does have the experience, but just doesn't care. You can decide that for yourself. I'm just grateful I figured this out before we were about to give him another $300K to manage.
