Sharing My experience here at GreenGate:

WARNING
Brace yourselves,
If you are a renter DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!

Was waiting around In limbo with my coworkers and our things in a uhaul with no consideration to expedite the process until I diligently started to call and check in.

Everytime I called maribel told me the same thing ā€œwe do a lot of stuff internallyā€ yet none of our credit still had not been pulled, no references called, nothing. I could tell by her tone she hadn’t even got to our applications. This is also due to this office being severely understaffed. They have more properties then they can humanly handle in a courteous timely professional manner.

This office discriminates against a ā€œcertifian demographicā€.

Stacey showed us the house and gave us an application. We filled out and turned it in 2 days later. It wasn’t untill the 4th business day after calling many times, that they started to process our applications, but they Somehow they managed to finish processing after I diligently called multiple times, but they never contacted any personal references or our employer upon my follow up. Only rental history.

We were told they will submit to the homeowner and he has 7 days to reply. And somehow the very next day the owner happened to get back and deny us, because he said it would not be a good fit.

I do believe they were just pulling our leg to avoid being accused of rental discrimination , because not one time durning turning in the applications and necessary paperwork did Maribel or Stacey ask for our group to provide an ID or any proof of identification.

I also do believe they never actually presented our application to the homeowner. Unless the homeowner specifically told them to steer away and not even bother him with unworthy applicants. (This would make sense as to why they never asked for our IDs) Every rental office or property management I’ve ever dealt with or called to ask said a photocopy of identification is required so when they present it to the owner they can verify.

I called Maribel this morning to ask why she never asked for our ID.

She said it was because ā€œyou filled out our paperwork and all the info is verified by the system we useā€
I said ā€œso does your system have a photo pop up of us when you verify us?ā€

She said ā€œnoā€

SO BASICALLY THEY EITHER LET PEOPLE COME IN HERE WITHOUT IDS OR ANY GOVERNMENT FORM OF IDENTIFICATION PROOF AND FILL OUT APPLICATIONS, OR THEY ARE PRACTICING RENTAL DISCRIMINATION.

To me an agency that tries to portray
proffessionalism such as GreenGate would make sure to have a government issued form of identification. Otherwise how do you know the person applying isn’t someone else or stealing someone’s identity, even if they have all the information correct, not verifying with a government issued ID seems like a very bad business practice and more or less a HUGE LIABILITY!

I do believe they were trying to help ā€œprotect the demographic of the neighborhoodā€ for the house we applied to at 1308 Blakely Ln in Modesto.

Stacey mentioned to me the other day ā€œthe homeowner is a very smart man. & that this home is a very rare home there’s not many like it, it’s called an executive home and will fit a very unique demographic.ā€ She also mentioned the typical Modesto family isn’t interested in a home such as this at this price point and that’s why it’s been sitting on Zillow for 45 days.

I should have known then what this office was about, but ignored the red flags out of hope. At the end of the day I am glad we ā€œgot deniedā€, the first house we liked but couldn’t rent due to owner still remodeling , called us back and said he fixed the place up finally and we could move in today. Talk about timing and synchronicity. Almost feels like destiny and makes me happy that GreenGate gave me that experience. Oh also by the way he did ask for our IDs when we filled out applications, I’d suggest your office changes it’s practices on not asking for that.

All I wish is that I can have my $200 back
