I was recommended to switch to Bank First a few years ago and was extremely happy with my switch.
However, I have had multiple unpleasant experiences with Bank First…
1. My fiance and I tried to get a pre-approval however, it was so low that we couldn’t even purchase a house with the current home prices. I was not at my full-time job for a full year but could show proof of my salary. We still believe that the pre-approval was only looking at my fiance at the time, and that is why it was so low.
2. I went to get an auto loan through Bank First. The process was seamless, and everything was on track to purchase. I was promised that if the sale did not go through, I would have a few months with the pre-approval to find a different car. I picked up the check, but the sale did not go through due to the dealership's negligence. I returned the check right away and again was assured that I would be able to come back if I found another car to purchase. About 2 weeks later, I found a car and brought them all the information on it. I was told I needed to start over with the entire process, and another credit pull would be done. Considering Bank First just did a credit pull 2 weeks prior for the other loan, I was confused. I was just told it is what it is. Well, I had two credit hits, which drastically dropped my credit score and affected the interest rate. I was told that since my credit score was lower now, I have a higher interest rate on the new auto loan. This was due to Bank First running two credit reports for an auto loan 2 weeks apart. I should have gone somewhere else to get an auto loan, but I decided to bite my tongue and get the loan through them. I am not sure who from Bank First dropped the ball, but from these experiences, I have chosen not to get a loan through Bank First again.
3. My husband and I went to open a joint account at Bank First recently. I currently had accounts with bank first, but my husband did not. We worked with Javier to set up the account. We led with “We would like to set up a joint account”. Javier started with getting my husband's information to set up the account, but proceeded as if I was not even there and not listening that it was to be a joint account. This is extremely frustrating. We did get everything set up finally with no problems.
4. Most recently, my husband and I are closing on our home. We needed some last-minute documentation from Bank First for underwriting (we chose an outside lender). I tried calling and was told no one knew what I was talking about, but Evelyn Green would know. They have Evelyn call back and get everything straightened out. At the end of my conversation with Evelyn, she brought up our pre-approval a while back and asked why we chose a different lender. I simply explained that we didn’t get the pre-approval we were looking for and ended up waiting until I was employed for 2 years and we got married. And just ultimately agreed on a different lender for our home purchase. She then said that it would’ve been nice if the work was reciprocated and we took a loan through them. She seemed irritated that she was getting documents ready for a different underwriter.
With everything I have gone through with Bank First; I will continue to bank there for now, but I will NEVER get another loan through them.
