Went for a pleasant walk around the park. Saw some wildlife. Lots of sun exposure depending on the route you take, so be prepared for that. I only saw a couple of people the whole time.

We absolutely love this location! I had a couple recommended it for their engagement photo session a few years ago and have been revisiting it ever since. We do family sessions, engagements, maternity sessions, and all sorts of little shoots here. You do need a permit in order to shoot here, however, the OC Parks offices make it very easy to obtain. You simply have to supply them with proper insurance, and fill out a few forms and the permit is good for a year. Also, make sure you pay for parking when you arrive because they do check on that (it's only $3). Beyond that, the staff has always been very helpful and courteous to us. We see a lot of people who hike and bike through here and they're all very friendly as well. For photo sessions, I love that you don't have to go on a long hike in order to get the photos you need (which makes our families happy especially with little ones). They close at sunset so be mindful of the time as well

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of exploring the beautiful Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park, a stunning 544-acre natural area located in Orange County, California. Upon entering the park, I was immediately struck by the sheer variety of plants that call this place home. Thanks to the Seek by National Geographic app, which I had downloaded prior to my visit, I was able to identify numerous plant species that I encountered along the way. Some of the notable species I found included Coast Morning Glory, Mediterranean Stork's Bill, Hairy Vetch, Coast Live Oak, Foxtail Barley, Weld, Smooth Cat's Ear, Wild Oat, Deerweed, and Hairy Vetchling. Each of these plants contributes to the park's rich and diverse ecosystem, which also supports a plethora of animal species such as deer, coyotes, rabbits, and various species of birds and reptiles.

Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park offers an extensive network of trails that cater to all levels of hiking enthusiasts. Some of the popular trails include the Wagon Wheel Canyon Loop Trail, the Oak Canyon Trail, the Sycamore Canyon Trail, and the Water Tank Road Trail. Beautiful place to take pictures! A permit is required for photography.
Bring your hiking buddy, go for a romantic hike, or for a sweaty run! Great place to exercise.
Parking fee is $3 per vehicle for the day and is valid until sunset! Park Rangers patrol the area to make sure people are in compliance with the County Ordinances.

Hiking for day use, mountain biking, and equestrian use (horses). Please leave your dogs at home as you will be turned away. Dogs mark the area and will have park wildlife like the Mule Deer, Grey Fox bobcats, and Coyotes become stressed due to a new predator in the area.
Dogs are also likely to bring ticks on them from ticks "questing" on nearby strands of grass and plant material.
PLEASE STAY ON AUTHORIZED TRAILS AT ALL TIMES!!
Mountain Lion country, please be aware of your surroundings and keep your kids within your close proximity.
This park is home to venomous and constrictor snakes, tarantulas, tarantula hawks (2nd most painful sting in the world behind the bullet ant) scorpions, and other bugs and insects. There is a beautiful butterfly garden with many native indiginous plants! Park maps are available online by visiting ocparks.com
Oh, there are a few Pokemon gyms and Poke stops here as well for the kiddos 🙃

I have family who lives within walking distance and when I come to visit it's a great place to hike and see the critters and the different landscapes. It also gives you a great workout hiking the hills! I think this is the first time I have been here that most plants were still green and quite a few flowers have bloomed. I have posted some pics from my recent trip. There will be one picture that looks like someone's lower body in reality it's a tree that had been cut off. I did another picture that made it look like a person. Enjoy your time at the Park!

A very strange experience none the less still good. From the unknown sounds of rattling everywhere, to being the only two people on the hike in the entire park on a beautiful Sat, to no park ranger in site, geckos poping out everywhere, the number of signs warning about mountain lions and rattle snacks, the wholes in the ground everywhere, the subtle trail that led past labeled poison oak, the caution tape being the direction TO follow the trails. Today was quite the experience on what appears to be generally, a very easy hike all around.

It’s an ok trail we had a good time until the people coming for family photo sessions arrived. Trails are easy and one loop in particular was super cool I think it’s called turtle something.
