One of my favorite spots in Arizona. Lush green, cool water and beautiful scenery. Sometimes a little crowded, when busses from Salt River Tubing are operating. You just need to know when to go and where... 😉 Don't forget to buy a Tonto recreation ticket and hang it into your car! It will get expensive if you don't.

Great place to launch a kayak or paddle board but make sure you have a ride back to your car. Paddling & floating is best done this far up river during times when the Dam is releasing water. The dam can begin releasing enough water as early as March and can run through October. During the summer weekends and holidays, Water Users gets extremely crowded. Often times the parking lot will fill up and officials will close it. A Tonto National Forest pass is required to park here. America The Beautiful passes are also accepted here. You can get Tonto Forest passes at various gas stations, sporting good stores, Mesa forest ranger, or even in the parking lot. The Salt River Tubing company also uses this area to launch.

One of the most amazing places in Phoenix. You'll forget you're in desert. So much water, so many trees, wild horses what else to expect.
Bathrooms are usual , no water. They get cleaned everyday but keep your expectations real and low.
Lots of parking spaces. People use this site to get into water.
Remember that you either Tonto pass or America the beautiful pass to use this place.

Went for an early morning walk and to look around. It was about 38 degrees at sunrise and warmed up to about 45 within an hour. Easy paths to walk down to the water, some are handicap accessible by walker or wheelchair, others are sand or too steep. Even from the gazebo area you can get a great shade and view of the river and mountains. Excellent place for water activities and photography. Plenty of wide open as well as more private and secluded areas.

If you're looking for a good day on the water I highly recommend a day on the river. Cover up though this place is notorious for bad sun burns.
