Athens utilities came out and replaced everyone’s meter, they failed to read meter and adjust the reading, I got a almost 300$ bill, my bill has never been over 200$ or even close to that since I’ve lived here for 3 years. I was ripped off! What can ya do? I would like a supervisor look into it, can’t get past the old maids at customer service

I’ve had service for electric only with Athens Utilities at the same location for over 20 years now and we’ve been a week or so late and haven’t always paid our bill on the exact due date but we’ve always had it paid in due time and no issues with late fees or disconnection. Well, I’ve never in my life seen a company so quick to disconnect a customer without any hesitation and they sure don’t have any customer service employees who have one kind or helping word to say to someone. We paid 247.00 on June 1, due to our service being disconnected. First time we’ve ever had our service disconnected in 20 years, even the gentleman who had to cut us off was shocked and he kept saying he was sorry and he had never had to cut mine off so he was shocked when he saw it on his list and was kind enough to turn it right back on soon as I paid it. This was June 1. I paid everything due excepted 174.00 now today we wake up to no power on June 22. I call and yes they’ve disconnected us yet again that’s twice in the same month and we’ve had our service for 20 years and never had any problems with our service disconnected. It’s 2023, we have one income, 3 small children and the cost of everything is ridiculous that we are hitting a rough patch. This company is the worst I’ve ever had to deal with, we have Huntsville Utilities for our water and they are much more helpful, respectful and much less expensive. Athens Utilities is a joke. They have no care for their customers and they have the most ornery, rude, lack of empathy and kindness, always in a rush customer service employees of any company I’ve ever did business with. They should have been put out of business years ago for the way they handle customer service and the lack of communication, empathy, understanding and kindness. In 20 years of paying bills I have never been so stressed out with a company as this one.

Over a week ago they had a crew come through and trim trees on our road, which was fine with me because it was past due. I had even advised them when I first moved in here that it needed done, but they told me they did not do that.

The young fellow in charge of the crew assured me that a crew behind them would pick up the debris; if not then, then Monday, 12/11/2023. When that time passed, I called the office. The young lady with whom I spoke said it would be picked up. It was not picked up, so I called again to see what the status was on that. She was obviously annoyed at my call. She asked for my name, number, etc. and said she would have someone call. Thus far no one has called.

I now have a pile of debris in my yard that I need to deal with that was left by someone else. I do not have a chainsaw nor am I a young man anymore. The only course of action I can take is to escalate this until I receive a satisfactory resolution. The very least they could do is respond to my inquiry.

If I could give Athens Utilities negative 1,000,000 stars I would because they are the absolute worst. They’re rude, inconsiderate, and not to mention expensive because everyone’s bill is outrageously high every single time. I wish I could afford solar panels just so I would not have to give them my money. They will NEVER be in a hurry to get power restored, but they ARE DEFINITELY eager to cut it OFF. Even before the bill is even DUE. I mean I guess a FOURTY DOLLAR restoration of service fee for everyone would make me eager to cut someone off too right? Not to mention the fee just to pay online. When we were having all of those power outages from the freezing weather, a friend of mine was even told by one of the ladies that,“Maybe she should have paid her bill in time”when my friend was concerned about her power still being shut off by nighttime because it was supposed to get below freezing that night. I guess you can act however you want and do whatever you want though, when you’re the only utility company available to the people of Athens and Limestone County. Don’t get me wrong, I know a few people that work as linemen, meter readers, etc and they’re amazing people, but that’s about it just a FEW. The women that work inside are TERRIBLE AND RUDE and talk to you like you’re everything but a human being. I tried to file a complaint with TVA MULTIPLE TIMES and the link they provide just takes me back to the same page again, which is weird to me. Hopefully one day something gets done about this company, or another company becomes available to us all because it’s really sad and pathetic when the only utility company for Athens and the county has 1 and 2 star ratings with complaints all pertaining to the same types of issues.

What's up with the power grid in Athens every time the wind blows somewhat hard the power goes out. It's very dangerous because it's the area near Krystal's, where the light is for the interstate. A police officer is never out there to direct traffic. The quickest Athens utility has came out was an hour and a half. They leave us in the dark in the hot summer

2 stars because they STILL haven't changed their location on Google, which caused me an additional 15 minutes of unnecessary driving.
If you need to pay your bill go to 409 s Marion st.

I would give a negative 10 if I could. I know people who own homes in Huntsville, Madison, Giles, and Lincoln and we lose power more than ANYONE. We’ve lost power multiple times this week (while no one else has) and I’m getting sick of it. Last time lasted nearly 8 hours. Our power just cut off AGAIN, and I’m about to lose my mind. Get. It. Together.
