Best food bank I have ever been to hands down. They have the most variety of foods. The staff is always friendly and professional and polite. They get people through even when it is crowded. A special shout out to the volunteers who got me set up with food even though the food bank was closed on Christmas Eve. Lucky for me they just happened to be there spending their Christmas Eve volunteering. Thanks a bunch. Thanks to Des Moines Food Bank and its volunteers for helping me on Christmas Eve!!

I've been a disabled food banker for a while now (20 years), and I just moved back to this area after 20 or so years of moving all around and trying many food banks. Here's my opinion...
1st, for being run out of a church (for God sakes) look at your biblical scriptures and learn who you are feeding! You are feeding Your Lord (if you are a believer), and who in their right minds would offer to God rotten and old food? At the temple in Jerusalem they couldn't offer an animal with any blemish.
2nd point, as someone who isn't in the workforce right now because of certain 'invisible disabilities', it is extremely painful and totally wrecks my mobility for a couple of days after standing in a line for an hour or two.
And 3rd, Des Moines and Kent food banks are the only ones around still demanding adherence to their godless mask policies. I say godless, because they fear an invisible virus and not the God who made both man and virus. Last week, there were even some 'money changers' that had taken up station in the courtyard, sitting on chairs while the hungry stood and waited. RECAP: godless godless godless, corrupt nasty, and inhumane..Dirty, rotten, rude (not everyone, but you won't have to search hard), and so seemingly slow and disorganized that I worry for the welfare of their souls.
Every time I visit.
3 stars because, doubtlessly there are some good, faithful, servants of God in the bunch...that doesn't make up for the godless bunch, there. To go anywhere else would be a time, and mobility restraint on myself. At least not all the food is bad, but I imagine if they just got rid of everything that's BAD, at least the line would move faster because the hunt for something still edible wouldn't be so time consuming. Of the regional food banks I've tried, Kent and Des Moines 'bad', and Covington is just stupid. If you can deal with stupid, and you have a car (that is probably the best). But watch out for stupid out there, it's VERY stupid. These three have more rude people, and lame rules and procedures than any of the other food banks around.. Covington, at least, isn't serving rotten food, like Kent and Des Moines food banks are. Abominations before their Maker! God, gave mercy on their souls.
