I have thought for a while before writing this review. However, the area needs to know the hidden goal of Five Star. It maximizes its profit for the business. It does not care about its customers.
The following are the reasons I closed my accounts with Five Star and took my business elsewhere.
I bought a travel trailer from a well-known company in Dothan. The bank was out of town. Extra payments are normally supposed to go to where the payer requests. This bank put it on interest and would not budge. This was a waste of my money.
So I transferred the account to Five Star.
A year before I purchased a new vehicle from Dothan Toyota. Five Star financed it. They debited my All In Credit Union account, with extra each month. Everything was fine.
So, when the time came to refinance the trailer, naturally I went through Five Star.
They all but refused to debit my All In Credit Union for the payment. I talked to several branches. I talked to several people, included people who said they were managers, and I talked to the call sight so many times I lost count.
Each time I was told something different.
The last time, at the South Oates office, after the lady looked up my account and saw the car's payment information, she looked me in the face and said they could not do the same with the trailer.
This is when I decided to go with a company I knew was out for the customer. That is USAA. With one call I refinanced both the car and the trailer. I was able to set up automatic payments from All In Credit Union. 30 days later, the payments came out of my account.
It took me 30 days to decide to write this. In that time, I concluded that Five Stare must put profit over customers. Or, they have a terrible internal communications system, or their employee training is not consistent and needs serious rework.
No matter what their problem is, it is not a place where mature people should keep their money.
Of course, there's another reason I might have hit a brick wall. They wanted me to close my account with All In which I have had since 1983.
All In has never given me this hard of a time just to service a loan.
Or Five Star Credit Union must not know how to deal with people who know how to manage their own money.

I keep having problems my second reveiw.i just had a foot surgery and can't walk on it tried to call to check a balance the recording I got said they were closed until Helena passed that been a month ago no other number have I found

Well I have been with five star for over twenty years and now I think it is time for a change. I can not get anyone on the phone to handle my issues. Currently, I am on hold with them. The call began at 1449hrs., it is 1516hrs., a recording came on saying my wait time is approx. 16 minutes and that I can leave a message and number and they will contact me. Well, looks like I will have to do this in person. Good luck to the rest of you. I believe they are a good credit union as far as banking but the customer service and access to assistance is undesirable. The time is 1534hrs., still no one....

My husband and I have been customers since this 5☆ opened in Cedar Springs,Ga.
I have tried 2 days and have left my # and a voice mail. No one answers the phone at all or bothers to call us back! I've held on 10 min. Each time!
We've tried all 3 locations,Al. AND Ga.What has happened to your Customer Service!

Probably one of the worst banks in Dothan. 9/10 of there bankers are rude and nasty. If you deposit a check for any amount over $500 they will hold it for 9 days even if they have already received the moneys. They are absolutely malicious and mony hungry once they where a home town bank not anymore.
Update on this post November 3rd,
2022. They are continuing to attack my family and I at everyturn do not use this bank they go out of there way to hurt people.

I remember when I first started a account with the credit union 10-15 years ago at the branch in Eufaula, Al. The customer service could not be touch! I deal with 3 different banks/ credit unions and FIVE STAR CREDIT UNION (as a whole, not speaking in reference to this location in particular) has the worst customer service EVER! They don’t value the customers AT ALL. Just poor everything. Can’t get a call back, answer about anything. Every single 1 needs to be closed! Periodt! Just awful. Beware when you get loans from them cause they will add on coverage that you probably don’t need, READ READ READ YOUR PAPERS..
