We were with American Family Insurance for more than 40 years and with J. Mercado Agency for 25+ years. There was a time I would have rated them with 5 stars but that changed. Service, when needed, was satisfactory. We had multiple cars, two homes, recreational vehicles, a boat and at one point umbrella coverage. We always paid on time, had minimal claims, and listened to suggestions for repairs for our home. In our mind, we were a great customer. In summer 2024 there was a large increase in premium. We never heard a word from the agency. No suggestions of how to reduce premiums, no thanks for our business, nothing. We felt zero sense of loyalty to our family. We contacted a local insurance brokerage company and received better coverage and lower premiums. The agents and company wanted our business and were patient, respectful, and kind to us. They cared. We cancelled with Am Fam and moved our policies. We never heard a word from the AM Fam agent or from the company after we cancelled. It was very surprising but made us glad our commissions would be paid going forward to a different agent.

Just like another reviewer, we were LOOONG time clients of Jaime Mercado/AMFAM. Well over 20 years as a client. Our homeowners rates were always high when compared with our friends. And that was without any claims or excessive risks. Payments were always on time. This past year, we gave Jaime Sr., Jaime Jr. and the receptionist (3 separate calls) an opportunity to lower our rates. CRICKETS. We're currently with a company that is 25 PERCENT lower each year, coverage for coverage. When we canceled, there wasn't any sorry, we'll miss you, what happened? My best guess is these large carriers got caught with their pants down and lost them with the latest catastrophes. They left those areas and are trying to play catch up with the business they still have. That's my humble opinion. See ya AMFAM.

Monthly payment was higher than the quoted payment we had agreed on over the phone. Was late 2 weeks and I contacted via email that I was making payment that same week but on Friday and next thing I know, my coverage was ended and I couldn’t make payments or access. I would think they’d be more considerate seeing that inflation costs have gone up and I was still making insurance a priority. But it’s whatever.

I've had Auto and Home or Renters insurance with American Family for 50 plus years. The few claims I ever had to place all went well. I haven't had a bad experience so I guess that is why I'm still with them.

Jaime and his associates have always provided me with the most efficient, courteous and prompt service since I have been a customer. The AFI insurance rates offered are very competitive and would be hard to beat in today's economy. I'm sticking with this company, and I ask you to check the rates and service they offer.
