Compassion Absent When It Mattered Most

We have rented at The Colonnade Luxury Townhomes — managed by NALS Apartment Homes — for over five years. In that time, we never caused issues, and always acted as responsible tenants. When we renewed our lease in late 2024, we disclosed to the on-site manager, Cait Pearce, that we were facing a likely family medical crisis that might require an early move (lease termination) to provide care for two terminally ill parents. Cait was compassionate and encouraging, assuring us that NALS would likely handle such situations with understanding and humanity.

That turned out not to be true.

In April 2025, we formally requested a lease termination. One parent had entered hospice, the other was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and my own health challenges had forced the closure of our business. These weren’t abstract concerns — they were medical emergencies we were living through. We offered to provide documentation. The company declined the request outright and didn’t ask for anything further.

Worse, they ignored our appeal and have not responded since.

We weren’t asking for charity. We were hoping that five years of on-time rent, good standing, and full transparency — combined with a documented family tragedy — might warrant basic compassion and leniency. Instead, we got silence.

NALS presents itself as a company that values residents. But in our experience, when tested, those values did not hold. If you’re considering leasing with a NALS-managed property, ask yourself how the company might treat you if your circumstances suddenly change — not through carelessness, but through tragedy.

This company is the textbook definition of slumlord scumbaggery. Currently I'm a resident at the NALS property Aliso Briar Forest in Houston, TX, and this is what the property looks like regularly. (See photos.) NALS corporate couldn't care less either, I've reached out to and spoken to Ms. Brown, Mr. Stryker, and every single NALS partner, and they are some of the laziest people you could ever interact with. Unless it's pertaining to money you owe them, and then you better believe these slumlords will suddenly be motivated to communicate with you regularly.

These people are scammers they will take all your money and ask you to pay more money when your account should be zero office managers losing paperwork and peoples checks do not suffice with me and then go on to sell there complex to another company that now can’t help you with anything going forward but charge you extra late fees for something you’ve already paid. DO NOT LEAVE HERE

DO NOT LIVE HERE!

Horrible place, started with the old apartments to the scammy management ways.

Bugs infestation everywhere, the door didn't even fit to the frame so bugs will go under the door and infest our unit.

Lesly Pena & Mayra Garcia scammed us, they made us sign the wrong lease then 3 months in Lesly begged us to come to the office to tell us that they had given us the wrong lease and that we needed to sign a new one so she don't get it trouble.

Then when we tried to put our 60 days to move out they charged us extra fees.

Stay away from SKY HARBOR APARTMENTS, look for any other place.

NALS staff volunteer every year to help with maintenance and holiday decorations at Lambuth Family Shelter. They are always a delight to work with, and they get work done very quickly. They also donate gifts for the kids living in our shelter, and I can't say thank you enough for all of their hard work.

Most unprofessional group of people working for this corporation. You can NEVER get a hold of anyone, the in person office regardless of working hours you’ll rarely find anyone there (almost never) email they provide is a non working email for corporate and Jalen Thompson “ community manager” with Ladera vista apartments in New Mexico likes to play the avoidance game when no answer can be provided, completely refused to give me contact information for corporate as well as not allowing Mariah receptionist to do her job and provide it herself. Been waiting over a month and almost two weeks when I was told it could take two-four weeks to get my deposit back and both have now surpassed a month and a week. Take your business elsewhere or at least make sure the company has reliable employees that can respond efficiently and have more than an I don’t know to offer residents. Easy to take your hard earned money but it takes them over two months to pay back but the not giving public contact information for a corporation is Ridiculous. Hire better employees and community managers that can provide information needed for former residents to get their money back.

The Gardens of East Cobb - Marietta
We have been residents for over a year and renewed our contract due to the excellent experience we have had in the condominium.
Pleasant layout, constant maintenance keeping the condominium running smoothly, lovely leisure area, prompt response to our requests, lovely neighborhood and excellent management. We are very pleased with the service and living in such a well-kept place, we highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have an incredible experience.

I was approved to move in apartment 1117 At Vintage at the Lakes apartment complex in Las Vegas Nevada for a August 2nd move in date. I was told that the apartment was vacant in June for some reason and that I needed to move in right then or give up the unit. I was out at sea on a cruise ship at the time. I decided not to go forward with the application process and as a result they kept my deposit and my application fee. No problem. I being a old fashioned elder I had prepaid August partial rent in the amount of $850. I know now that was wrong to do with a company that steals from old people on a fixed income. I have sent many emails and left many voicemails. Nothing. I have returned to Boston where there are actually laws against robbery of the public especially when the victim is an elder. I never signed a lease and just want my money back. I promise to never go anywhere near a NALS owned property. I have called the regional office in Santa Barbara and left messages for Julie Koch again same response. Silence. They literally do not answer their phone calls. They literally will not answer your emails. Please refund my money. Or do I have to file a claim with Judge Judy? I have all of my documentation and a email saying that the payment was made which is not true. I’m an old man being abused and scammed by a greedy corporation. I just want what I worked hard for.
