I'm not one to take time out of my day to write negative reviews and I am generally pretty easy going about this sort of stuff but the way this property management company has treated this building and its residents is simply atrocious. I've lived at one of the buildings Sutro manages for about ten years now. When I first moved in Rob was the manager and there weren't any issues. Since he has sold (part?) of the company to Salman - things have considerably gone down hill. I recently contacted Salman (which I dread since the last time I had a problem with a broken disposal he was trying to get me to fix it myself?) about the aging carpets in my apartment. They were old when I moved in ten years ago so I thought it was reasonable to see if he could replace the carpets or put in fake hard wood floors (which he has done in other units in the building after a ongoing streak of people leaving the building in the last couple of years). I even offered to move my own furniture. This company is anything but reasonable. Before Salman even looked at our carpet - he accused me of not getting them professionally cleaned twice a year? Matter of a fact - I do have them professional cleaned twice a year and they still look like garbage. There are cigarette burns from the previous owner(s) and are so matted down and thin that no amount of professional cleaning is going to improve their condition. When I vacuum - actual parts of the carpet get sucked into the vacuum since the integrity of the carpet is so bad. I also sufferer from allergies and asthma and have noticed an increase in my symptoms as the carpets have deteriorated over the last ten years. After being accused of not taking care of them before even coming to see them (and him speaking to me incredibly condescendingly - which seems to be a theme on this thread with him), he reluctantly agreed to send someone over to take pictures. Nariman came (first time I have even seem someone from the company in this building) and took some pictures of the bad areas and how worn down the carpet is. I didn't even have to point out the bad areas - they are that obvious - and Nariman knew where to take the pictures without close inspection.
I followed up with them the next day and they decided their measure for replacing carpet was that it has to be "HAZARDOUS" and they would not be replacing the carpet or putting in fake hardwood. Hazardous is your standard in your buildings? Might I add - we pay a good amount of money for this apartment. Rents in SF have been dropping dramatically and many property management companies are offering to reduce rent or working with the tenants to help them stay. Not this company. After going back and forth with them - they offered no other solutions unless it was an actual HAZARD.
There has been a large water stain in the entry way to the building for over a year - maybe two (probably more) - and they don't care. The laundry room is absolutely disgusting - they never have it cleaned. The washing machines pipes leaked for a good six months before anyone fixed it - and once someone did- nobody had time to clean up the mess it made? The carpets in the hall are riddled with stains - they haven't been changed the entire ten years I've lived here. Some of the banisters are loose - but what do they care? They will just keep raising the rent every year without taking adequate care of the building. There is mold and holes in the garage ceiling. Pictures are attached.
This company doesn't even have an email where you can put your complaints in writing which seems like an extremely shady business practice. The only way to put complaints in writing is to send an actual letter to their office? In 2020? What a joke.
I've lived in many different apartments and have never had an experience with a company like this. I do want to add that if Brian still works there - he is the only bright star since Rob left. They should and need to do better. Will definitely be forwarding my complaints to the appropriate people.
