This is a MUST stay. Our room was absolutely adorable and we had no problems finding parking. Right across the street was a pub for drinks and food if you get the munchies after 9pm. Very clean and quiet. We will come back.

Beautiful rooms with a historical feel. Our stay was enjoyable from beginning to end. The staff and service were some if the best we have ever experienced. The food was cooked to perfection for both dinner and brunch. Highly recommend & we will be returning soon!

What a disappointment. There was no response from their confirmation email and our phone call was neither answered nor returned. Upon arrival, parking in front was full and there were no directions about where to park overnight. According to the first page of the website the Full Bar is open everyday from 5-9. It was closed. According to the Self-check-in Instructions brunch is available every day. It was not. Also according to the self-check-in instructions Keurig coffee is available in the lobby. It was not. The heat didn't work and finally a phone call (through a service) was answered a half hour later and we were told to move to another room. We didn't find the TV until the morning as it was in the closet. Obviously the new owner of this once welcoming and well-run hotel is not up to the task.

The bloom is off the rose under the new management unfortunately. Where before you were greeted by Gary or Charlotte at reception when you checked in, you are now greeted in an unstaffed and unlit vestibule with a letter containing directions to your room. Where before a breakfast was included each morning of your stay, you now are offered 15% off you breakfast, but more on that later. The dining area is a fraction its former charm, but still charming. The dinner menu is pretty good and both of our dinners each night of our stay there were excellent. For this reason I have given two stars. It would be impossible to say the same about breakfast. In one location, an 8AM breakfast opening was listed. Our Welcome Letter stated 830AM was the opening time. Neither time mattered, because on both mornings the Breakfast service wasn't even open. The entry to it was locked up like an after hours NYC Subway entrance. Saturday morning no human being could be found. We even went back at 10AM to see if it had opened yet, with no change. Sunday morning it was locked up, but there a woman behind the bar to give our key to as we checked out. On both mornings we had breakfast elsewhere. We stay at the hotel for special occasions, and this stay was no exception. Staying at the Charlotte Hotel and not having to leave it was always something we appreciated and looked forward to during the previous dozen or so times we had stayed there before. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back.

My office Christmas party was delightful for the perfect service provided by Chey and Christine. and the amazing food by Rob. The Charlotte conveys the ambiance of Europe, and the friendliness of the Eastern Shore of VA Thank you for making us all feel so special. Cheers Irene Carr Lewin

Made reservations at this boutique restaurant in the hotel. It was a disaster. Took some time to order drinks, then the wine ordered needed the manager to get it from another location. Fine, but how about offering us the option to choose a different bottle. Grandson ordered a Shirley Temple, they were all out! What? The glass of red wine was served chilled! Not a good sign. Let's say, it went from bad to worse. After 50 minutes, still waiting for food. And we were the only customers! |With our patience running thin, we asked to speak to the manager. She came to the table dripping with attitude. So we paid for the beverages and left before our food was served but not before being called "entitled"!!!! It may have been the worst dining experience ever!

Made reservations for dinner. It was an unmitigated disaster. Took quite some time for our drinks to be served. Apparently the bottle of wine we ordered needed to be brought in from another location, the red wine was served chilled. The Shirley Temple that we ordered, well they "ran out".
After nearly an hour waiting for food in a restaurant where we were the only customers, we paid the drink tab and left. We were pretty annoyed because the manager was all about discussing the time-line of events. What's to discuss when the appetizer didn't come out after 40 minutes and when it did it was awful. Anyway. We were told we were "entitled". Imagine, you go to dinner, expect a nice experience and when you're upset because it wasn't at all, you're accused of being entitled! Some people are in the wrong business.

I found this hotel by looking at places to crash through the night far enough from Virginia Beach. This place is amazing if you want to have peaceful sleep. The rooms are very clean as well. I’m glad to have found this amazing place. The town as well is very laid back. It is far enough from the main highway and you don’t get disturbed by buzzing vehicles and trucks.
