Today (01/02/2025) my father had an appointment at this facility at 1:10pm. He was referred to this facility by his doctor in Danville, VA. When we (me, my mother and father) arrived at his appointment we approached the desk to check in. The lady behind the desk was not what you would call friendly, much less polite. In the check-in process, she asked my father for his insurance card at which time we discovered that we had mistakenly left his Humana Insurance Card at home, she at which time informed us that they would not be able to see my father without his insurance card (this was policy). Mind you he was referred by his doctor who had sent his medical records over to them which would have all his medical documents that would include his insurance information, I even offered to email over to them as soon as I got home but she quickly stumbled over her words and made it evident that she wasn’t sure that was possible. I finally suggested calling the insurance company and the response I received was so utterly ridiculous I had to walk away; she responded with I don’t have their phone number. Seriously we are in the year 2025, with the amount of technology we have you are going to sit at that desk and tell me you do not have their phone number, boy oh boy that was an ignorant response. I left my parents standing at the check-in desk and went outside, Googled the insurance company’s phone number myself, called them and told them what we were experiencing. They had never heard of anything like this, a patient, especially one who was referred to them by another doctor being denied services, all because they forgot their insurance card. The insurance company called and filed a formal complaint pertaining to my father’s situation and the treatment he was subjected to because he did not have his insurance card.

Very efficient and helpful office staff.
Dr. Mackin was informative and sincerely caring and thoughtful. I was definitely pleased with the experience. I'm very happy that my local eye Dr referred me to the Retinal Specialist at this location.
Thank you to everyone!

Office personnel were very efficient in requesting insurance information and processing. Short waiting time before instructed to go back to the patient waiting area to see the Doctor. There only a short period of time before a nurse attended to us and examined my wife eyes. The doctor came in shortly thereafter for his examination.

Good luck on getting someone on the phone to make or reschedule
an appt. All calls are rerouted to a call center in Roanoke or Salem stayed on hold 45 minutes trying to talk to someone.NOT GOOD

Was a VERY long wait for such a short procedure but Dr. Griffieth has a great bedside manner, very informative about what he was doing. The wait was disappointing but I am happy with the outcome of the procedure, the doctor and the attendees

Even eye care physicians are in the business to make a living. Do you work for free? I found the entire team to be well trained and organized. I am pleased with the eye care I received. Have visited only once so far so long term I will see how it goes in the future. But for now I will trust them with my eyesight.

Same as Kiah J below. Excellent doctor, but awful experience. Staff (not including doctor) made no attempt to communicate with very uncomfortable patients and/or caretakers pertaining to inordinately long wait times.
