Absolutely horrible experience with this company. After nine years of having our homeowners and auto insurance through them, we experienced an insane amount of issues the last few months before we were canceling our policies.

The first issue came when our 16 year old got her license and my wife was getting information in regards to adding her to our insurance policy. My wife communicated with Ashley asking how much it would be to add her to our policy. We were given quotes and my wife said let’s hold off before stating it. We were waiting for our daughter to get a job where she would need her license. There was no further communication from Watkins or Ashley in regards to this. A few months later we noticed that our auto insurance had gone up $400 per month and realized that they had added her to the policy without informing us.

The next issue arose when we sold our home and realized how much we were over, paying for auto insurance through Watkins. Our policy runs the 14th through the 14th and is billed on the 15th every month. Ashley was contacted on the eighth about canceling our policy and informed her that we did not want to be auto drafted on the 15th because we are canceling. Four days later we got the cancellation paperwork which was submitted on the 12th, yet we were still billed the full amount by state auto on the 15th. Contacted Watkins on a Thursday and was told it would be refunded, also told I would get a call back then on Tuesday no refund in my account and no call back. When I call them they tell me that I will only be getting 300 and something dollars of the 600 that was drawn out of my account back, when I ask why Ashley has no answers. After about an hour of phone calls, she informed me that apparently we were a month behind in our payments from 2015 when we set up the account through Watkins. I’m not sure how this is possible as when we set up our auto and homeowners insurance we did it all through Watkins and were never told we were a month behind, or there were any issues in the nine years we’ve been dealing with them.

Finally, I receive a call from someone representing Watkins, who is extremely dismissive of any issues and implies. I am rude because I am upset about money being drawn out of my account that I didn’t approve. She states that when the account was set up in 2015 we were a month behind, and when I say we didn’t set up the account you guys did she dismisses it. I then ask her why nothings been communicated in nine years that we were paying a month behind and she has no answer. I ask about the auto insurance and she states that North Carolina requires all license drivers to have insurance, which is fine, but why was nothing communicated with my wife was getting information? Instead of de escalating the situation and providing any kind of solutions, she simply dismisses things, and then finally hangs up on me mid conversation. Extremely rude, extremely unprofessional, run far away from this company.
