GARS Intersection - Fairbanks, Alaska

The GARS intersection is easily the best intersection in all of Fairbanks, if not the whole state of Alaska. It’s quick, efficient, intuitive, and best of all safe for pedestrians and vehicles alike. The lights circumnavigate concerns about visibility in the snow. I’ve enjoyed the experience of GARS so much that I’ve gone through it in all 12 ways.

By far the best intersection I have had the pleasure of driving through. The roads that weave into one another and then diverge reminds me of how all our lives are interconnected and the choices we make either bring us together or put us in a new direction a new road a new journey. The layers of stop lights are reminiscent of the stars on a clear night and when they all turn green it's like seeing the aurora for the first time. Love this intersection and all that it represents of life and of the amazing state of Alaska.

I love the Gars intersection, besides the pesky stop lights this is the best place to pull over and stop in the middle for the best views of the mountains and aurora in fairbanks. Especially the minecraft birch trees, a true spectacle. The State of Alaska DOT knocked it out of the park with this one. 11/10 would recommend for all visitors.

After reading about all the posts on the Facebook page Fairbanks, Alaska I had to add this to places to see. Traveling all the way from Kansas the hype of the GARS intersection did not disappoint! Was disappointed that I couldn’t find a I survived driving the GARS intersection souvenir . Thank you Fairbanks and Alaska for the bucket list vacation.

My fellow residents are memeing the heck out of this review process, but the reality is so many people have rerouted their daily commute to avoid this thing. So I'll tell you how. 1) From North Pole, just take the turnoff labeled 'Cushman Industrial District', travel through the depression of Southside, and avoid GARS. From the Steese, turn on 10th, then turn on Noble. From Airport, turn onto Cushman and heading north: turn right on 10th, heading south: turn left after the overpass. From Fort Wainwright- pick another gate like everyone else does already. Trainor Gate is popular.

One of the largest and most architecturally inspiring synthesis of concrete and asphalt in the Alaska interior. I felt like the road was subconsciously guiding me to the destination that I needed to go to. The navigation was as effortless as floating down the River Seine on a sunny spring morning. I would definitely recommend a visit to anyone in Fairbanks, even just for the joy of driving through this piece of functional art.
